Join us on November 5th when we venture out to the picturesque East End for another  Fall Harvest tour. Since grapes were first planted on the North Fork in 1975 the  region has blossomed into a great wine producing area with over 40 vineyards which  have  earned the respect of oenophiles the world over. This is Grape Getaways 8th year of running fun and informative tours to wine country.Grapes

Our first stop will be the Rafael Winery, which has one of the most beautiful tasting rooms on Long Island . Here we’ll tour the vineyard, view the wine-making facilities and sample some very fine wine.

Next we’ll head out to Greenport, a charming fishing village with a history dating back to whaling days. We’ll have lunch at the legendary Claudio’s Restaurant, overlooking Peconic Bay. After a delicious 3- course meal (choice of stuffed jumbo shrimp or chicken francese for entrée) we’ll drive over to Duck Walk Vineyards for another round of wine-tasting.

Grape Getaways tours are both fun and informative, plus you’ll have a chance to meet fellow wine lovers. During the ride out we’ll talk about wine and the region (as well as provide wine appreciation tips so you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy this getaway – wine lovers at all levels enjoy our tours). Our final stop will be a famous farmstand, Briermere Farms (known for it’s homemade pies and fresh local produce).

The wine tastings at each winery are included in the price, as is lunch at Claudio's. Tips are also included. (Cost for Grape Getaways' trips are all inclusive)

The discounted price for early sign ups (thru Oct 25th) is $115. Regular registration (after Oct 25) is $125. You can register on-line by clicking below or by check. (please call 203.629.1261 for any questions).

Below are descriptions of the wineries we’ll be visiting. You can learn more by clicking on the links to their websites.

Raphael:
Owner Jack Petrocelli designed and built one of the most stunning wineries on the North Fork - its Mediterranean design was inspired by Italian monasteries and it sits on 60 beautiful acres. All Raphael wines are estate grown and bottled, and it is one of the few estates on the East Coast to hand harvest 100% of its crop. The winery also has a natural wine-making philosophy and uses gravity flow processes to assure the best quality wine under the supervision of Winemaker Leslie Howard. In the past during the early start up days of Raphael there also was consultation with renowned winemaker Paul Pontallier of Chateau Margaux.

Claudio's Restaurant
Claudios logoGreenport was a whaling center in the 1800's when vessels from all over the world sailed into this safe harbor to replenish supplies. In 1854 a Portugese sailor named Manuel came to Greenport aboard a whaler that set sail from the Azores. In 1870 after several visits to Greenport Manuel opened Claudio's Tavern and vowed never to sail again. It's been in the family with a Claudio at the helm ever since. (Claudio's is recognized by the restaurant association as the longest continuously operating family restaurant in America). Our three- course lunch at this legendary restaurant (which overlooks the bay -- click on website for film/photos) includes a salad to start, choice of chicken dishes or baked, stuffed shrimp for entree (veggies too), and dessert. Beverages are additional.

Duck Walk:

Duck Walk was founded in 1994 by Dr. Herodotus Damianos (who also founded nearby Pindar Vineyards) and his son Alex. The Duck Walk logooriginal South Fork “Chateaux” with 130 acres was purchased from Southampton Vineyards. The large, new tasting facility we will visit on the North Fork in Southold only opened a few years ago. The winery which produces over 20 different wines has won numerous awards and is known for its Reserve Merlot and Blueberry Port among others.

Briarmer FarmsTime permitting we’ll also stop at Briermere Farms, a well-known farm stand that’s been an East End hit for decades. Their fresh home-made pies and jams have many fans far and wide.
